Kylie Dorr is the Supreme Winner, NZI Rural Women Business Awards
Kylie Dorr has taken out the Supreme Winner title of the 2026 NZI Rural Women Business Awards.
Having already won ‘Emerging Enterprise’, one of eight entry categories, her big win was announced at tonight’s Gala Dinner, held in the Banquet Hall at Parliament.
Kylie’s entry had the judges in awe.
Heather Sorensen, RWNZ National President said "It was a great challenge for the judging panel as there were so many incredible, high calibre and creative businesswomen among the entrants. To be announced as the Supreme Winner is very special and I am delighted that Kylie Dorr is the recipient this year”.
Kylie is the owner of Southern Reproductive, an independent reproductive services and training business that she began five years ago.
Having returned from eight years in the USA she started by providing an AI (Artificial Insemination) service as an independent technician.
Revenue has increased by 100% year on year, and the business now has 12 AI technicians across the South Island, with a team of over 20 seasonal staff.
A pregnancy scanning service is provided and Southern Reproductive has become the national distributor for IMV Technologies ultrasound devices.
In addition, the development and launch of an AI training school means anyone in New Zealand can learn the AI processes at their facilities.
“We are making some changes in our business so that I can work more on the business rather than in the business, which I'm really excited for. I think we will see the growth be even bigger than what it has been to date”, Kylie said.
Clients praised Kylie and her team for their clear focus on service quality, animal welfare, and reliability, three things that matter enormously to farmers who depend on reproductive services to drive herd performance and long-term business success.
The focus is now on expanding Southern Reproductive.
“We’re continuing with growth over the next 12 months because we are planning to launch into Australia. So yes, there's not a dull moment.”
In her spare time Kylie races her dirt bike, has won a national series and represented New Zealand at World Championship level.
“I’m really, really passionate about endurance sports, and I'm currently the president of one motorcycle club and the secretary of another motorcycle club” she said.
‘When I'm not busy with cows or in the shop fixing scanning gear, I'm usually with my kids out on the racetrack”.
