Roly & Wag

About Roly & Wag

Roly and Wag are a series of books aimed at little readers aged 2 - 6 years old. They are written especially for rural New Zealand families, celebrating farm life, country values, and the experiences children growing up on rural land.

Authored by Julie-Anne Hyland and beautifully illustrated by Gustyawan. Inspired by Julie-Anne’s upbringing on a dairy farm in Waiuku, New Zealand, the stories center around her father and his mischievous farm dog, Wag. Wag’s antics, including sneaky tricks and cheeky adventures, often find him in amusing predicaments, much to the chagrin of Julie-Anne’s mother who tries to keep him out of the house and away from her prized flower gardens. With a heartwarming blend of humor and rural charm, “Roly & Wag” captures the spirit of farm life and the enduring bond between man and his loyal canine companion.

Gustyawan, known for his background in animal science and affinity for silly creatures, brings Wag to life with vivid illustrations that reflect his playful personality and the rustic beauty of farm landscapes. From Wag’s escapades in the barnyard to his misadventures in chasing chickens, Gustyawan’s artwork not only captures the essence of farm animals but also evokes a sense of warmth and nostalgia. Through whimsical drawings filled with detail and character, “Roly & Wag” invites readers of all ages to join in the laughter and heartfelt moments shared between a farmer and his beloved dog.
