⚠️Civil Defence State of Emergency⚠️

A State of local emergency has been declared for Whangārei, Thames Coromandel and Hauraki Districts and for Bay of Plenty and Tairāwhiti regions due to severe weather in the North Island.

With the forecast for more heavy rain coming, streams and rivers may rise rapidly and cause disruption in flood prone areas. Floods and flash floods can happen quickly. If you see rising water, do not wait for official warnings. Head for higher ground and stay away from floodwater. Self-evacuate if you feel unsafe, before it gets dark.

Stay up to date by checking MetService warnings and follow your Civil Defence Group for local updates.

Avoid non-essential travel. If you have to travel, take extreme care when driving and watch for flooding, landslips, and other hazardous driving conditions.

Check road conditions before you go. Check NZTA Waka Kotahi website for road closures and driving information.

If your life, health or property is in danger, call 111.
