Policy Action Advisory Groups
What Are PAAGs?
Policy Action Advisory Groups (PAAGs) are member-led groups that inform and guide Rural Women New Zealand's advocacy work. Each PAAG focuses on one of our six priority policy areas, bringing together members with diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives.
Each PAAG is led by a Board member (PAAG Convenor) and brings together members from across Rural Women New Zealand’s seven regions.
PAAGs ensure the voice of rural women and their communities are heard and not forgotten when legislation and regulations are being changed and considered, including:
Changes in laws via legislation at Parliament
Local Government changes via regional and district councils
Consultations run by Government agencies and other groups which impact on our rural communities
“Influence decision makers and contribute to our voice for rural communities.”

Frequently Asked Questions
-
PAAGs meet regularly online to discuss policy priorities and community needs. How often will be up to the group to determine. The PAAGS are led by a Convener which is a member of the Rural Women New Zealand Board.
-
We are asking people to sign up for two years. This allows the chance for the group to build up expertise and knowledge and to tackle some meaty issues. We understand, of course, that life sometimes gets in the way of the best intentions so obviously exceptions can be made.
These are volunteer roles, but pre-approved expenses will be paid if you incur costs, e.g. travel to represent RWNZ at an event.
-
The convenor roles require more experience but there is plenty of opportunity for interested people to join a PAAG and learn. You will already have the relevant experience by virtue of being a rural woman!
-
If you are interested in one of our policy topics, we want to hear from you.
