Greater Waikato Photo Competition

Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or someone who just loves capturing special moments, we want to see your unique view of rural life. This photo competition has four categories and it’s your chance to tell visual stories that reflect the heart, history, and everyday beauty of our rural communities. Selected images may be featured across Rural Women New Zealand’s social media channels and marketing material, helping us celebrate and share the incredible stories of rural Aotearoa. We have four categories for this competition:

1. Rural Women in Action

2. Scenic Rural Views

3. Rural Life

4. Rural Women in History

Competition runs from 1 June- 31 July, 2025 (photos do not need to have been taken during this timeframe). Please note that only high-resolution images can be selected for inclusion. Submit your full-size, hi-resolution photos by Monday, 31 July, 2025. Entries must be submitted in JPG file format and size 3-20MB). Photos must be taken in Aotearoa, New Zealand. If any person or private property is photographed you must ensure you have express consent. We will be selecting one winner from each category and one overall winner. Nick Torrens will be judging and winners will be announced 31st August. Criteria for judging will consider:

• Relevance to Theme – Does the photo clearly reflect the theme or category?

• Creativity & Originality – Is it a fresh, unique take or perspective?

• Composition – Is the photo well-framed, balanced, and visually engaging?

• Technical Quality – Is it clear, focused, and well-lit?

• Emotional Impact – Does it tell a story or evoke a feeling?

Prizes:

Overall winner: Bespoke gift basket from Basketique

Category winners: A4 framed copy of their winning photo or a ticket to one of our dinners (winners choice!)
